Most people with a TikTok account have posted dozens of videos without ever going viral. One new mom posted exactly one, and it has now been viewed more than 174 million times.

The clip shows the moment her husband, standing calmly at her bedside in a hospital delivery room, ends up delivering their baby daughter himself while the medical team is still getting ready. The internet has crowned him a “10/10 emergency contact,” and the comment section has turned into one big round of applause.

The video was shared on Wednesday, October 21, by TikTok user @hellorosajay, and it is the only post on her profile. It is filmed from her right side as she lies in a hospital bed, with doctors and nurses moving around the room preparing for the delivery. Her husband glances down, reaches in and lifts up their newborn daughter.

The on-screen caption says it all: “When the doctor misses the birth so hubby has to step in.”

The camera then zooms in on the faces of the nurses walking in, who look just as surprised as anyone that the baby has already arrived. “Their faces say it all as they walk in,” the mom wrote.

How it happened

In her caption, she explained that labor had been slow. She was struggling with pain at roughly 5.5 centimeters dilated, and after three hours she was told she had barely progressed. After another 40 minutes, she said she did not want to ask the nurses to check her again, partly because she did not want to bother them and partly because she was afraid of being disappointed.

Then things changed in a hurry. According to her caption, a NICU team had come into the room as a precaution, and while staff were preparing for another check, the baby arrived unexpectedly. “Welp, Celine had her own plans and no one was ready,” she wrote.

The internet’s new favorite dad

What has made the clip so shareable is how unbothered the dad looks. There is no panic and no shouting, just a man who sees what is happening and quietly handles it.

His wife clearly agrees. “Thank God for hubby being the calm, cool & collect soul that he is bc idk how he handled it so well lol the nurse thought he was in the medical field,” she wrote.

Commenters have piled on with praise, with one calling him a “10/10 emergency contact.” Others joked that the family should not have to pay a cent for the delivery, given that no hospital employee was anywhere near the bed at the moment of birth.
