Sending invites out to your kid’s classmates is always a parental leap of faith. None of us want to see our child’s little heart shatter if there’s a low turn out on their big day. That was the situation one Canadian dad faced when no one came to his son’s 11th birthday party.

So, he took to Twitter to try and salvage the day. He posted a picture of his son, clad in his Toronto Maple Leafs shirt, with his Maple Leafs cake. He also tagged a few of his son’s favorite players.

My son Kade had his 11th birthday party last night. None of his invited friends came. That hurt. I’m asking my Twitter friends to show him some love today. If you have a minute, please send him a birthday wish. @Marner93 @91Tavares @MapleLeafs #LeafsForever pic.twitter.com/kn0vP1l6z8

Of course, you know exactly how this played out. It would be cruel to set up such a heartbreaking story and then just leave it there. Like, “yep, this kid was sad, and probably cried himself to sleep.” This is The Dad, we would never do that to you because Twitter came through for Kade and in a big way.

First, one of his favorite NHL players responded, promising a big surprise from the team.

Happy 11th Birthday Kade! All your friends on the team look forward to celebrating with you. I’m hearing it’s going to be quite the surprise. @Marner93 @MapleLeafs https://t.co/knidhCar7G

That big surprise turned out to be a flight for Kade and his family to come to a game and meet with the team. The outpouring of support didn’t stop there, as dozens of other athletes chimed in with birthday wishes. And the love and support even spread to some celebrities. Zach Braff chimed in, despite being confused about the sport of hockey.

Happy Birthday Kade! I don’t know anything about sports. Why are those ice dancers on your cake using canes? Love ZB

Dozens of athletes wished Kade a happy birthday, several teams offered him special VIP treatment for their games, and even some actors from SpongeBob Squarepants sent some wishes too. One of my favorites was Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, checking in to send a personalized Happy Birthday shout-out.

Happy Birthday, Kade. I can tell you’re going to be a very powerful Jedi. You have more friends than you realize. We’re all here for you so, go have the best birthday ever sweetie & May the force be with you always! 🎂🥳🥰❤ pic.twitter.com/H8kmfldcOO

Then the PRIME MINISTER of the country took the time to wish Kade a happy birthday.

Happy 11th birthday, Kade! 🎈

“I couldn’t imagine being in his shoes, being a kid, there is nothing like your birthday to celebrate with your friends and just have a party and a day that is about you and something that you want to do and have some fun,” Tavares told the Toronto Sun.

“No one shows up and you don’t get to do that,” he added. “I couldn’t imagine the impact that would make on an 11-year-old kid.”

The original post, which garnered nearly 50,000 comments, made Kade’s birthday one he will never forget. And for that, his dad was especially grateful.

We can’t comprehend what has happened today. Kade and the rest of us are just amazed. To EVERYONE who sent Kade a message – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. He is an amazing son and he will never forget this day. @MapleLeafs @Marner93 @91Tavares @NLGrowlers
