Donald Trump appears in White House Cabinet Room (Twitter/screen grab)
CBS News reporter Ed O’Keefe reported Wednesday night after the riot of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol that the president’s Cabinet is discussing whether to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office.
“Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan reported that she is talking to actual secretaries who have not yet presented the process to Vice President Mike Pence, but that they are discussing the next steps.
Over the course of the day, President Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and Rudy Giuliani all made statements at the so-called “Stop the Steal” rally that encouraged the attacks. While Trump told his supporters to be peaceful, he also continued to suggest that they had to fight for their election.
They’re not the only ones talking about removing Trump. Angry Republicans at the U.S. Capitol are thinking about it as well, CNN.com reported late Wednesday night.
“He has to be impeached and removed,” said a current Republican elected official who wouldn’t allow their name to be used.
“I think this has been a huge shock to the system,” said one former official agreeing.. “How do you keep him in place for two weeks after this?”

None other than Sarah Palin has jumped into the fray for a little counterprogramming on behalf of the insurrectionists unleashed today by Donald Trump.
A large headline at Townhall.com blared: “‘Knock It Off’: What Has Sarah Palin Peeved About How Media Are Reporting DC Protesters”
<p> Here’s how it was reported at the wacko right-wing website:</p><p> “With the nation’s capitol in chaos on Wednesday as protesters stormed the Capitol Building, Sarah Palin had a message for the media about how they ought to be reporting.</p><p> “Sharing a photo of a bare-chested man wearing horns standing with other individuals inside the building, the former Alaska governor said they need to be identified before labeling them.</p><p> “Media: quit labeling DC protestors ‘Conservatives, Republicans, Tea Partiers, Trump Supporters, etc’ LOOK IN TO (sic) WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE who’d choose an apparent leaderless insane swarm to create a perception of condoned violence. KNOCK IT OFF,” she tweeted. “And to any insincere, fake DC “patriots” used as PLANTS – you will be found out.” </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>

<p>Supporting Mama Grizzly’s strange read on the situation, Town Hall offered this insight:<br/></p><p> “Jay Richards, research assistant professor at The Catholic University of America, questioned who would benefit most from such a situation. </p><p>”One question: Who are the greatest beneficiaries from a crowd identified with MAGA and Trump storming the US Capitol, and footage of it being broadcast around the country and the world?” he asked. Richards pointed out vast numbers of Trump supporters were outside not engaged in a confrontation with Capitol Police to storm the building.</p><p> “The reality is, we don’t know at this point who exactly is storming the Capitol. We do know there are hundreds of thousands of pro-Trump people outside not doing so,” he said. “So maybe it would be prudent to suspend judgment on who is doing what until we know more.”</p><p> Alternately, maybe it would be prudent not to get one’s information from TownHall.com.</p><p> Immediately after Trump’s mob stormed the Capitol, here’s how the website had reported the terrorism:</p><p> “<a href=”https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2021/01/06/trump-supporters-breach-capitol-hill-n2582672″ target=”_blank”>They’ve Had Enough: Trump Supporters Bust Inside Capitol; UPDATE: Shots Fired Inside Capitol” </a></p><p> That was right around the time the similarly cranked information providers at TheGatewayPundit.com offered this:</p><p> “BREAKING: Patriots Have Made Their Way INSIDE THE CAPITOL — Pence Evacuated, Lawmakers Sheltering in Place” the Gateway Pundit trumpeted. It’s story, such as it was, began “Patriots have now made their way past the police and into the Capitol building.”</p>

Newsweek is reporting that last week it was clear to President Donald Trump’s officials that things were going to get violent in the United States capitol on Jan. 6, but they refuse to act in advance to ensure safety in the city.
“Officials from the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, the National Guard, and the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region who spoke to Newsweek last weekend on condition of anonymity, all talked about the potential for protesters and militias and paramilitary goons—egged on by the president—to storm Capitol Hill and even the Capitol building itself,” the report said.
<p>It is a question that many are asking after Capitol Police were left understaffed and unable to defend the U.S. Capitol under siege from Trump supporters. Thousands marched from the rally at The Ellipse to the U.S. Capitol, pulled down several barriers, stormed up the steps, crashed through windows, and climbed up the building. </p><p>It <a href=”https://www.rawstory.com/pence-pentagon-national-guard/” target=”_blank”>prompted many to ask where the National Guard was.</a> Earlier this week, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser requested that the Guard be called in as part of the city’s added security for the event. There were conflicting reports on whether Trump ignored it or denied it, but her request got no response. After the rioters breached the Capitol building while Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker Nancy Pelosi were inside, both demanded the Guard be called in. </p><p>”A half-dozen sources spoke openly about this very scenario: that the mob would take over the ‘People’s House’ and that somehow the system would break down,” said <em>Newsweek</em>. “They speculated that this could occur because of the president’s treasonous behavior, because of leadership deficiencies in the federal government and Congress, because of the extreme partisanship of the moment, and because everyone was looking the wrong way.”</p><p>Agencies are now passing around blame. Officials have already begun asking questions about the failure to secure the building. It’s likely that hearings will likely be announced in short order. </p><p><a href=”https://www.newsweek.com/fbi-homeland-security-white-house-advisers-foresaw-possible-riots-looked-other-way-1559535″ target=”_blank”>See the full Newsweek report. </a></p>

On Wednesday, Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) took aim at Sen. Josh Hawley, who continued with his crusade to overturn the election results even after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol, leaving a woman dead and extensive damage.
Responding to a picture of Hawley greeting the demonstrators who minutes later would devolve into violence, Bush demanded his expulsion from Congress.
<p>”Josh Hawley said he was doing this for the people of Missouri,” tweeted Bush. “Let me tell you something, Josh. You are supposed to represent St. Louis too, but you do not speak for us. You have blood on your hands, and that’s why I’m calling for your removal from Congress.”</p><div class=”twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered” style=”display: flex; max-width: 550px; width: 100%; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;”><iframe allowfullscreen=”true” allowtransparency=”true” class=”” data-tweet-id=”1347004899108810754″ frameborder=”0″ id=”twitter-widget-0″ scrolling=”no” src=”https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?dnt=false&embedId=twitter-widget-0&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1347004899108810754&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rawstory.com%2Fr%2Fentryeditor%2F2649775161%23publish&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550px” style=”position: static; visibility: visible; width: 550px; height: 656px; display: block; flex-grow: 1;” title=”Twitter Tweet”></iframe></div> <script async=”” charset=”utf-8″ src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”></script>
