Writer/director/producer Khalil ur Rehman, during the promotions of his film Kaaf Kangana, got candid about his views on women. During a recent Podcast here at Epk, he was asked about his latest drama Meray Pass Tum Ho, which stars Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan and Adnan Siddique. The drama has been directed by Nadeem Baig where as Khalil ur Rehman Qamar has written the script.

The conversation was steered by Mr Qamar towards his views on women. Talking about loyalty, he even went on to say that men are weak and can’t say no to a woman but a good woman has will power to say no to a man.

“Trust me, you’ll not find a bigger feminist in Pakistan, but I fight for good women only. Loyalty is a woman’s virtue; don’t challenge it.”

Also, Khalil talked about equality and rights of women which led to him suggesting “If you wish to strive for equality then kidnap men as well. Rob a bus, gang rape a man, so that I can understand what you [women] mean by equality.”

He believed that men have hijacked women’s rights in a way that women can no longer understand their own rights “Rather than figuring out your own rights, you’re only asking your part from men’s rights. That’s never going to happen!”.

The controversial self righteous statements made during the interview has infuriated women and men feminists alike. Among others, some celebrities have also spoken up on the issue. While some highlighted how his views about feminism are skewed, some termed them misogynist, some demanded a public apology and some questioned actors and producers who work with him.

Khalil ur Rehman truly believes he is a progressive in Lollywood. 🤦🏽‍♀️ #KhalilurRehmanQamar

I have watched the whole interview. What was so different? His skewed perspective on feminism? His rampant misogyny? His belief that women alone are the root cause of infidelity? I mean, there’s so much to unpack I don’t even know where to start.

Ummmm and how many actors, actresses, pro/dir and channels will put their foot down in response to these views and send a message of resistence here? https://t.co/Dg7s0V3DNe

While Meesha has challenged media personalities to speak up against Qamar’s misogynist views, actress/model/host Iffat Omar has demanded a public apology from the writer for insulting women.

#khalilurRehmanQamar #IDemandPublicApology This man is beyond https://t.co/PN8uNuvWr1 dare he keeps on insulting women like this.He should publicly and apologise. https://t.co/GxpYV4yhmu

Nadia Afgan appreciated Hassan Kidle for speaking up on the matter as well!

Moreover public figures like Jibran Nasir pointed out the double standards in media who wouldn’t muster up the courage to speak up against the writer.

Celebrities will participate in talk shows, fund raisers and events on women empowerment but would look forward to being cast in #KhalilurRehmanQamar‘s next drama because he gets ratings by selling his sick misogynistic crap wrapped in “gripping” dialogueshttps://t.co/XlhTWTJEWV

Of course #KhalilurRehmanQamar is a highly coveted writer. He’s written one of the biggest hit dramas airing right now, #MerayPaasTumHo. Except for a few, no celeb is you to say anything because it may damage them career wise. Proud of @aClockworkObi 👏👏 https://t.co/1MX8pu32eb
