Cristiano Ronaldo stands to applaud Antony’s goal on his Manchester United debut after starting on the bench AGAIN against Arsenal… before replacing the £85.5m Brazilian winger after 58 minutes

Cristiano Ronaldo was thrilled to watch new Manchester United star Antony score his debut goal for the club, as the Red Devils took the lead against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Portuguese superstar leapt off the bench to applaud the £85m winger as he made the perfect start to his Manchester United career during his side’s 3-1 win.

Despite arriving on deadline day, Antony was thrown straight into Erik ten Hag’s starting line-up to face Arsenal and impress from the outset with his box of tricks.

But his biggest contribution came against the run of play in the 35th minute, as Manchester United carved out a quick counter-attack to set up the Brazilian for his first Premier League goal.

As Rashford handed the ex-Ajax star a glorious opportunity on his favoured left foot, Antony slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale to erupt the home support.

Television cameras soon panned to Ronaldo, who had left his seat on the Manchester United bench with his hands above his head, applauding the winger.

Following Antony’s goal, Gary Neville said on Sky Sports: ‘Well I said he had to have a good start, well he just has.

‘Arsenal have been the better team in the last 15 minutes but this pass from Christian Eriksen is brilliant and it just opens up the game.

‘Well done to Paul Tierney he plays the advantage, Rashford, he just knows Antony is there. It’s on a plate, he goes down early Ramsdale.

Marcus Rashford netted twice in the second-half to add to Antony’s opener and seal a 3-1 win

‘We mentioned it before the cutting in on the left-foot, it’s a dream position for the Brazilian.’

Antony’s opener handed United a 1-0 lead at half-time, before Bukayo Saka levelled the scoreboard for Arsenal on the hour mark.

But Rashford scored twice in 10 minutes to shock the Gunners and hand Ten Hag his fourth successive Premier League win.
