The six-time Ballon d’Or winner had registered in the Champions League, scoring against Manchester City in a 2-0 win, as well as a brace against Leipzig that helped secure a 3-2 victory from 2-1 down.

However, his golden touch had been missing domestically, that is until he collected the ball from Kylian Mbappe just inside Nantes’ final third in the 87th minute.

Messi toyed with the opposing defender, carrying the ball to the edge of the opposition box before unleashing a trademark left footed shot that the goalkeeper had no chance with.

It was Messi’s 21st Ligue 1 shot that eventually ended in a goal, securing a 3-1 win and extending PSG’s league lead to a whopping 13 points after just 14 games.
