Rafale engine manufacturer tells Rajnath: Don’t terrorise us on tax
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I Highlights: Sri Lanka completed the away clean sweep in the T20I series after defeating Pakistan by 13 runs in the third and final match in Lahore on Wednesday.
After setting a decent target of 148, banking on debutant Oshada Fernando’s unbeaten 78, their bowlers came up with a superior performance. Although Haris Sohail scored a fifty, and his partnership with Babar Azam filled Pakistan with hope, it was not meant to be. Wanindu Hasaranga bagged three wickets, while Lahiru Kumara and Kusan Rajitha also starred with two wickets and one wicket respectively.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I Highlights:
Sri Lanka win by 13 runs!
Lahiru Madushanka with the last over, and although he started off with a wide and getting hit for a six, he handed Sri Lanka their third win of the series to complete the away whitewash. After restricting Pakistan to 134/6, Sri Lanka won by 13 runs, and clinched the series 3-0 in what proved to be a humiliating night for the hosts.
Reaching a thrilling climax
Iftikhar Ahmed keeps the fight going with a boundary and a double in the opening two balls. Wahab Riaz couldn’t provide enough support to him, as both of them just dealt in singles They need 28 runs from six balls. PAK are 120/6 after 19 overs.
After a brilliant introduction by Iftikhar Ahmed with a six, his captain couldn’t keep up with momentum. Sarfaraz Ahmed tries to slog it, but instead Wanindu Hasaranga bowls him out. Things are looking very bleak for Pakistan. PAK are 111/6 after 18 overs.
Oh no, oh no! Things are going from bad to worse for the hosts. Asif Ali came in to attack, but he has been sent back on his second ball. Wanindu Hasaranga scalps another as Asif is caught by Danushka Gunathilaka. PAK are 104/5 after 17.1 overs.
Imad Wasim wanted to follow his captain’s lead, after Sarfaraz Ahmed’s boundary, but instead he is just caught out. Lahiru Kumara bags the second of his night. PAK are 103/4 after 16.4 overs.
Wanindu Hasaranga has been in superb form in this series, and he proves it yet again, as he dismisses the most stable batsman, Haris Sohail. Perfect spin delivery, draws Haris out, makes him miss the shot and gets the batsman stumped. PAK are 94/3 after 15.1 overs.
Fifty up for Haris!
After a flurry of singles in the last 10 balls, Haris Sohail thanks his captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed for some good running as the batsman scores his second T20I half-century. The run-rate has slowed down for them, as Sri Lanka have assumed the driving seat. PAK are 88/2 after 14 overs.
Lahiru Kumara brings back the smiles on the Sri Lanka fans, as he dismisses Babar Azam. A soft outside edge and the batsman is sent back to the pavilion after he is caught by Sadeera Samarawickrama. PAK are 76/2 after 12 overs.
Back among boundaries
Probably jinxed it about the boundaries, but after 19 balls, Haris Sohail is back at it again with a brilliant four through extra cover. 7 runs from the over of Lakshan Sandakan. PAK are 71/1 after 11 overs.
Slow and steady?
The boundaries have dried up, but the runrate hasn’t dropped that much, owing to some brilliant running between Babar Azam and Haris Sohail. 19 runs from the last 18 balls. They still need 85 runs. PAK are 63/1 after 10 overs.
Haris Sohail in song
Now this is a worry for Sri Lanka, as after their first ball breakthrough, they haven’t been able to look for an answer. Haris Sohail is in full swing off late, as he smacks two boundaries in two consecutive overs. 18 runs from the last two overs. PAK are 44/1 after 7 overs.
PAK in full stride
After Rajitha conceded just one run frustrating the Pakistani batsmen, they bit back against Danushka Gunathilaka. An opening boundary of the innings by Babar Azam, and then a six and a four by Haris Sohail. Things have got started for the hosts as they got 15 runs from the over. PAK are 23/1 after 4 overs.
Responsibility on Babar, Haris
After the initial collapse, in Lahiru Madushanka’s over, the pair of Babar Azam and Haris Sohail have tried their best to settle things for the hosts. They are yet to hit a boundary though. Still 141 runs to go. PAK are 7/1 after 2 overs.
Sri Lanka begin the second innings on an EMPHATIC note! Wicket first ball! Rajitha the wicket taker with a beautifully swerving delivery that crashes into Fakhar Zaman’s middle stump. Beautiful sight for a fast bowler. Beautiful sight for a Sri Lankan fan. PAK 0/1 after 0.1 overs
End of 20 overs
Sri Lanka end their innings at 147/7 as Oshada fails to get enough support from his teammates. Hasaranga faces 4 of the six balls of the last over. Oshada remains unbeaten on 78. What a hand from him today. He came in when Sri Lanka were tottering at 30/3. He takes them to a decent total, they Sri Lanka would have been hoping for just a few runs more. Pakistan to chase 148 to get a victory in this T20I series.
Oshada loses another partner off the last ball of the 19th over. Amir snaffles up his 3rd wicket of the day. Has been a great show of bowling from him and Wahab Riaz today. One last over left. Oshada, on 77, still out there. Hasaranga, who can also hit the ball a fair distance, comes to join him at No.8. SL 140/6 after 19 overs.
Shanaka holes out in the deep. Pakistan finally break this partnership. It was getting frustrating for the Pakistanis, you could tell. To have got the top order back home cheaply, only to be thwarted by Shanaka and newcomer Oshada. Finally, the 76-run stand between these two come to an end. Needless to say, all eyes remain on Oshada. SL 134/5 after 18 overs.
Oshada! Six again!
Wahab Riaz bowls the 18th over. And the very first ball is slammed for a big six on the leg side. Oshada Fernando! Remember the name! Are we seeing the birth of a Sri Lankan star today? That was his third six off the day. Immediately, there’s a response from Wahab. He cranks his pace up to 150 kph. A young Sri Lankan batsman who seems to be batting with no care in the world vs two of the most wiliest fast bowlers Pakistan have had in recent years in Amir and Wahab – this is a mouth-watering contest at the moment. SL 134/4 after 17.4 overs.
Oshada onslaught continues
Mohammad Amir is raging! Not for any obviously discernible reason other than the fact that Oshada Fernando is slamming the Pakistan bowlers to all corners of the ground. He has raced to 65 here as Sri Lanka get their score into the 120s with three overs remaining. Could something in the 160s be on the cards? If Oshada can stick on for another two overs or so, the target for Pakistan could be even more. Shanaka has been in the middle for a long time now. He is on 12 off 22 balls, maybe time for him to step up a gear as well. SL 126/4 after 17 overs.
Oshada with a special feat
In fact, Oshada is the first Sri Lanka player to do this – get a T20I fifty on debut. He came in when the score was 30/3 and the Sri Lanka team was looking in risk of capitulating. Hitting boundaries at will, with the cover drive being used exquisitely, Oshada has ensured that Sri Lanka go into the last few overs with a good platform. SL 114/4 after 16.2 overs.
Oshada brings up his 50! On his T20I debut. Shanaka is still continuing his role of the sheet anchor at the other end. Sri Lanka cross the 100-mark. This partnership seems to have done the job for them after the spate of early wickets. SL 106/4 after 15.2 overs.

Touch of class from Oshada
Oshada Fernando has lit up the Lahore sky today. There’s a touch of Jayawardene about the way he is going about his business today. The future looks to hold a strong middle order for Sri Lanka on the proof of this series. Oshada has raced to 42 off 24 balls, with Shanaka watching on patiently from the other end. SL 89/4 after 13 overs.
Shanaka looks to play a different role
Shanaka is playing the circumspect role today. The skipper is as handy with the bat as he is with the ball but he knows he has to play a different sort of role today because of the early wickets. Oshada Fernando is playing his own little game. He smashes Usman Shinwari for two back-to-back fours again in the 10th over. SL 72/4 after 10 overs.
Another wicket comes in the most unfortunate way for Sri Lanka as Angelo Perera fails to make his ground for the double. A good thrown comes in from Iftikhar at third man. Sri Lanka have been stealing quite a few ones and twos today, finally Pakistan make them pay. Dasun Shanaka comes in at No.6. SL 58/4 after 8 overs.

Oshada blasts off
Enter Oshada Fernando! Four! Six! What an entrance! His side are losing wickets every over, but this start belies that. Usman Shinwari is there to be hit and Oshada Fernando complies. Shinwari has conceded 25 runs in his 2 overs. That’s more than half the runs scored. Angelo Perera the man with Oshada Fernando in the middle. SL 44/3 after 6 overs.
Boundary line catch
Pakistan cannot put a foot wrong today! Metaphorically and literally. Asif Ali grabs a catch right on the boundary line. Just in. Another step and that would have been a six. Rajapaksa hangs around to see the replays that confirm the fact that he must continue his walk back to the pavilion. He goes for 3 in the quest to get his first boundary of the day. SL 30/3 after 5 overs.
Shadab Khan calls for a very high catch! And drops it. Next ball is another wicket though! Imad Wasim, who would have been burning up inside with that dropped chance off the previous ball, gets Samarawickrama lbw off the next ball. SL have lost both their openers now. SL 28/2 after 4 overs
Amir to the rescue
Amir brought in early today. He bowls the 3rd over. And he is flicked without a concern by Samarawickrama first ball for a four down to the fine leg region. But it is Amir who gets the wicket! He bowls out the danger man Gunathilaka! Sri Lanka lose their first wicket. Amir gets Pakistan the breakthrough just when the SL openers looked like they would start the match off on a blistering note. SL 24/1 after 3 overs
Sarfaraz goes to Usman Shinwari for the 2nd over but he too goes for an erratic line and ends up going for runs. 10 runs comes off the over – including 5 wides for one that was miles down the leg side. Sri Lanka could turn the heat on fast if things go on in this fashion. SL 19/0 after 2 overs.
3 runs off the first ball. Pakistan start with Imad Wasim’s spin again. Danushka Gunathilaka the man to play the first ball and the man to get the first runs. His partner Samarawickrama today in Avishka Fernando’s stead. Gunathilaka goes for a big shot off the last ball of the over as well. Manages to just slice it over the infield and that races away to the fence. No third man. A fielder in the deep would have easily cut that off. Sri Lanka get off to a brisk start again. 8/0 after 1 over.
Both teams are approaching this final T20I with a spate of changes to their playing XIs. Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad are benched for this match, as is young Hasnain. Sri Lanka make FIVE changes. A second-string team having the luxury of giving their reserves a run out in this match, which has become a dead rubber. Match begins in a few more minutes.
SL opts to bat first
Dasun Shanaka has won the toss and has chosen to bat first.
