Manchester United have been linked with a number of players already this Autumn – but one of these is new at least.
Aleksandr Sobolev has been scoring for fun this season but is probably unlikely to provide the sort of immediate impact they definitely need.
Meanwhile, the club probably won’t worry too much about competition from Spurs for James Maddison – though neither club would provide a step forward for the midfielder on the pitch.
And there’s more on Mandzukic and Callum Wilson too.
All the latest from the Premier League is available below.
United linked with prolific Russian striker
United are reportedly looking at former Russian U21 international Aleksandr Sobolev.
The Sun say United scouts have closely watched Sobolev, 22, this season as he has scored nine goals for Krylia Sovetov in the Russian Premier League already.
They add he would be worth £15m if United were to make a move.
United face competition for transfer target
Manchester United could face competition from Tottenham for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison.
The 22-year-old is a player much admired at Old Trafford and it’s expected United could make a move for him next summer. But the Daily Star report that Spurs have made Maddison their top target to replace Christian Eriksen, who will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Manchester United have reportedly identified two transfer targets to pursue in January to solve their striker troubles.
United are currently relying on 21-year-old Marcus Rashford and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood with Anthony Martial absent, having opted against replacing the departed Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer.
Sky Sports News report that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified two strikers to attempt to sign in January in the form of Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic and Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.
