Whether it’s Strictly Come Dancing or X Factor Celebrity, we’re all tuning in to our guilty pleasures every Saturday night to admire the style, glamour, and varying levels of talent of these celebs…but what do these two seemingly opposing shows have in common other than beautiful celebrities? The answer might surprise you

Almonds! That’s right and I bet you never guessed that did you!

Former Pussycat Doll and ever-glowing X Factor judge has just revealed almonds as her secret snack of choice whenever she feels peckish and in need of an energy boost, while TV competitor and Strictly pro Karen Hauer says when it comes to her training, she always makes sure she has “”. That’s not all they have in common – both celebrities have been admired over the years for their svelte physiques complete with six-packs, and it seems almonds are one of the reasons behind their killer abs: a recent study has also shown that shown that a daily snack of 42g of almonds, instead of a high-carbohydrate snack with equal calories, as part of a cholesterol-lowering diet, helped reduce belly fat and significantly improved cholesterol levels.1

Registered dietitian, Juliette Kellow, hails some of the benefits of snacking on this wonder nut:

  • Energy levels: “Almonds are rich in a wide variety of nutrients that can help to keep us going throughout the day and support an active lifestyle. Almonds also contain a variety of nutrients including copper, manganese, iron and vitamins B1, B2 and B3 that have a role to play in the production of energy in the body.”

  • Muscle function:They’re a natural source of plant protein, which contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass, plus they’re packed with calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, which help muscles to function properly – all vital when you’re training in the dance studio for hours.”

  • Fatigue:Dancing for hours on end each day is bound to leave anyone feeling tired and fatigued – good news then that almonds contain nutrients like magnesium, iron and folate, which help to combat this.”

  • Skin: Almonds are high in zinc and vitamin B2 (riboflavin), which contribute to the maintenance of normal skin– perfect for showing off in all those skimpy outfits.”
