When it comes to deciding what’s ‘hot or not’ you’ll struggle to find a bigger authority than style bible Vogue.
So it’s rather flattering the fashionistas there have ranked Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland the number one Christmas market in the UK – how on fleek (that’s looking great to you and me).
Trumping the likes of London’s own Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Blenheim Palace and the award-winning Christmas market in Bath, Slab Square’s festive celebration have come out top.
The fashion magazine praised the Yuletide pop-up, which this year runs from Friday, November 15 to December 31, for its toboggan slide and picturesque rooftop bar.
“Winter Wonderland Nottingham is an icy spectacle with an ice rink, a toboggan slide and picturesque rooftop bar.
“Traders selling at the festive markets are handpicked for their diverse offerings, which include food, decorations, trinkets and clothes,” its verdict read.
Organised by Mellors Group in partnership with Nottingham City Council, this year’s Winter Wonderland is to be the biggest ever staged.
More than 70 wooden chalet market stalls selling gifts, food, drink and more will line Angel Row, while a 1,100 square metre ice rink (making it the largest in the East Midlands) will include a dedicated children’s area and people will also be able to skate along an ice path around the Old Market Square fountains, for the first time.
Sur La Piste and Altitude Bar will both be back alongside the ice bar, which this year has an Alpine theme.
For the first time Trinity Square is getting in on the action too with a Christmas pop-up bar, Thor’s Tipi.
Festooned with lighting, inside the bar is decked out with wooden tables and benches, cosy furs and a real fire pit, around which visitors can soak up the Viking ‘hygge’ – (a Danish word for cosy, charming or special).
