It is almost the most wonderful time of the year.
Christmas is just around the corner, and so it won’t be long before the city is lit up.
But who is going to press the big button?
Last year, ITV weatherman Des Coleman was due to do the switch on, but had to pull out due to illness. His ITV central colleague Matt Teale stepped in and turned them on alongside the Lord Mayor.
The city’s big switch-on event will take place on Thursday, November 21, from 5pm until 8pm. The switch-on itself will happen at 6.30pm.
There will be entertainment and music on the main stage in Humberstone Gate, while over and in Town Hall Square there will be bands and activities.
But so far there has been no announcement made on who is switching on the lights.
Last week Belvoir Castle announced Made In Chelsea star Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo would be switching on its Christmas lights. So, we asked LeicestershireLive readers which celebrity they would like to see turn on Leicester’s lights.
This is who they suggested:
Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha
There were a lot of suggestions for Leicester City chairman Top.
Nick Postlethwaite said: “Top and his family deserve this honour for what they have done for this city and the money they have pumped into our hospitals.”
Jacqui Millard said: “I think Top from LCFC, they have done so much for Leicester, donated thousands and thousands of pounds, it’s the least we could do.”
Lexie Naomi said: “Top/LCFC. We don’t need “celebs”. We need to show the club and those in charge at the club that we are family, and a community that is there for them during the good times and the bad.”
Probably one of the most suggested celebrities. Vardy would bring the party to the switch-on…
One of Leicester’s own would be a great person to switch on the lights. We’d love to see Gary counting down to the big moment.
Rebekah Vardy and Colleen Rooney
Imagine the introduction they would get, it’s… Rebekah Vardy and Collen Rooney. We think the person who suggested this may have been joking but just imagine the potential drama with Wagatha Christie and Becky switching on the lights.
People were really disappointed when Des was left unable to do the switch-on last year. Could the weatherman get the big moment this year?
He might not be a household name to everyone yet, but up-and-coming singer Jake Warner was suggested in the comments.
Patricia Parker said: “How about Jake Warner the busker from around the clock tower, he’s amazing.”
Another Leicester legend, he could definitely give us a song while he was there too.
There are plenty to choose from, and lots of people would like to see a sports star do the switch on. But who should we have?
Sam has performed at the Christmas lights many times. The Leicester local and X Factor winner is a popular choice for the switch-on.
Now this would be pretty special. We’re sure he’d have an inspirational speech to go along with it too.
