Iran lost to Egypt 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 26-24) at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup on Wednesday at Nagano White Ring arena.
Team Melli had lost to Russia 3-1 on Tuesday and will meet Canada on Friday.
“First of all, congratulations to the Egypt team for their victory. For us, this tournament didn’t start yet but it will be so difficult for us to finish this tournament in a normal situation. Most of us are not ready for this tournament mentally and physically for a lot of reasons,” Kolakovic said in the post-match press conference.
“We didn’t play good in important moments, especially in the second set. In the third set also, we came close at 17-16 but lost. In the last set we didn’t play as we usually play in important moments,” he added.
Asked him why Amir Ghafour did not play in the match, Kolakovic said, “He wasn’t ready to play this game. Also, I wanted to see (Porya) Yali on the court. He’s a young player and the future of Iranian volleyball. He became U21 World Champion this year, so I wanted to see him in a difficult moment this morning. But Ghafour is not ready to play as usual.”
“There’s not so much time to change something, because we came here not ready for this long tournament. But I hope the players feel bad after this defeat and change a little bit their energy on the court. In terms of elements, I can’t say anything because we don’t have time to change anything. Energy is what we need,” Kolakovic concluded.
